Potassium
Pickleball Packets (currently sipping on one after a weekend of dining out!)
These are my secret weapons for travel, the week before my period, or any time I eat late or restaurant-heavy meals.
One packet = 800 mg potassium
My favorite flavor: Blue Raspberry
Why I love it:
Most of us fall short on potassium. I recommend aiming for ~4,500 mg daily. Potassium needs actually go up the week before your period—and it’s essential for blood sugar balance and thyroid health. Without enough potassium, thyroid hormone struggles to get inside your cells, and every single cell in your body depends on thyroid hormone!
Sodium
Trace Mineral Research ZeroLyte Packets
Move over LMNT—this one takes it up a notch. I still keep LMNT chocolate on hand for a nighttime faux hot cacao, but ZeroLyte has become my go-to:
More potassium + magnesium than LMNT
Extra trace minerals (without the funky taste!)
Still available in delicious flavors (I love the Blue Raspberry here too)
Why I love it:
Sodium is critical for:
Blood pressure & insulin sensitivity
Stress balance
Stomach acid production (key for digestion!)
Needs go up after your period, in times of prolonged stress, sweating, feeling wired + tired, and during pregnancy. In fact, one study in 2007 found babies were more likely to be underweight at birth if their mothers weren’t getting enough sodium during pregnancy.
Magnesium
Mag Soothe Powder
This has been my bedtime go-to for years—and it carried me through pregnancy sleep like a dream.
Available in individual travel packets (so convenient!)
Why I love it:
Magnesium is the “miracle mineral”:
Improves thyroid function
Boosts mitochondrial energy production
Lowers cortisol + supports stress resilience
Relaxes muscles, reduces inflammation
Helps regulate blood sugar
Especially helpful for PMS when increased before your period
A deficiency in magnesium can even reduce insulin sensitivity.
✨ These three minerals are at the top of my list because they’re simple, powerful, and easy to use daily.
